Paver Patio with Compass Rose Inlay
A large paver patio built around a hand-cut compass rose centerpiece, using contrasting paver tones to define the inlay and a soldier-course border.

Scope of work
- Full patio excavation and compacted Class 5 base
- Field pavers laid to pattern
- Hand-cut compass rose inlay in contrasting tones
- Soldier course border with concrete edge restraint
Materials used
- Freeze-thaw rated concrete pavers
- Contrasting accent pavers
- Class 5 base
- Polymeric sand
The challenge
A compass inlay only reads correctly if the geometry is exact. Every point has to be cut to the degree and the whole figure has to stay centered while the surrounding field is laid around it.
What we did
We set the center point first, laid out the compass geometry from it, and wet-saw cut each point individually before running the field pavers out to the border. Edge restraint and polymeric sand lock the inlay so the points can't drift over time.
The result
A patio with a genuine focal point instead of a plain field — and a base built to hold that geometry through freeze-thaw seasons.
